Convert a QuickTime screen recording to MP4

For support replies, course uploads, and website demos, H.264 MP4 is often the requested file. Neocodec gives you a compatible software preset, a half-size preset, and a VideoToolbox hardware preset.

1. Choose an H.264 preset

   Use Compatible for a standard MP4, Half Size for reduced dimensions, or Fast for hardware encoding.

2. Drop in the recording

   Add the MOV file to Neocodec. Trim the beginning or end if the recording includes setup time.

3. Convert and review

   Run the job, then use Show in Finder to open the MP4 beside its source.

Select the MOV file, open Finder's Quick Actions menu, and choose one of Neocodec's H.264 actions. The Finder route converts the full recording using the saved built-in preset settings.

Need custom dimensions or a trim? Open Neocodec first. Finder uses the saved preset and processes the whole file.

Settings ▸ Presets lets you edit an H.264 built-in's quality, encoder speed, scale, and optional frame-rate cap. The saved edit applies to the app chip, its Finder Quick Action, and the same preset in the command-line tool.

The preset appears with (edited) in Settings, where you can also Revert to Default. Trimming remains an app-window choice because Finder always converts the full recording.

The MOV extension does not tell you which codec is inside. Neocodec 1.0.4 does not accept H.265 or HEVC input. If the recording uses that codec, use QuickTime Player to export an H.264 copy before converting it with Neocodec.

You do not need Homebrew or a separate FFmpeg install. Neocodec ships its conversion helpers inside the app.
