Mac video conversion
Turn a video into a GIF on Mac
Neocodec gives you two direct GIF choices. Use GIF Small for a one-third-size result, or GIF Full Size when detail matters. Conversion stays on your Mac.
The short answer
Pick the useful moment first
GIFs become large quickly. The cleanest workflow is to trim the clip to the moment people need, then choose the smaller preset unless the reduced dimensions hide something important.
Small preset
GIF at one-third size
Full preset
GIF at source dimensions
Audio
GIF output has no sound

App workflow
Convert in three steps
Choose a GIF preset
Open Neocodec and select GIF Small or GIF Full Size.
Add and trim the clip
Drop in the video. Set a start and end time if you only need part of it.
Convert and find the result
Start the conversion. By default, the GIF appears beside the source file.
Finder shortcut
Skip the app setup for repeat jobs
After Neocodec is installed in Applications and opened once, Finder adds separate GIF Small and GIF Full conversion actions. Right-click a supported video, open Quick Actions, and choose the GIF action you want.
Need to trim? Use the app window. Finder Quick Actions convert the whole clip.
Tune the preset
Make the GIF action yours
Open Settings ▸ Presets to change GIF Small or GIF Full Size. You can set the scale, frame rate, dither method, lossy compression, and gifsicle optimization.
An edit to a built-in preset updates its app chip and matching Finder Quick Action. Neocodec marks the preset as (edited), and Revert to Default puts the original settings back.
Want another GIF recipe? Add a custom preset for the app and command-line tool. Custom presets do not add more Finder actions.
Before you start
Know the current input limit
Neocodec 1.0.4 does not decode H.265 or HEVC source video. If a clip uses that codec, export an H.264 copy from QuickTime Player first, then give the H.264 copy to Neocodec.
For longer motion, fine gradients, or content that needs sound, an MP4 or WebM file is usually a better delivery format than GIF.
